They look similar on a 500 mm grid — but they are built on different material systems. Matrix uses 100% DOIT-designed, custom-moulded parts and a higher-tier LED / IC / PCB / power stack for pro and high-end fleets. Lite uses about 70% common-mould parts, which is why it wins on cost, cabinet-size flexibility, and first-inventory budget. Here is how to choose.

- If you need Brompton Tessera, the decision is made — only Matrix 500 supports it (P2.6). Lite is Novastar or Colorlight only. Many companies run both platforms at different tiers.

The weight and pitch columns matter on a truck. The hardware rows above are the reason Matrix holds a premium — and why Lite exists as a separate platform, not a discounted Matrix.
When Matrix 500 Is the Right Pick
Matrix 500 is for companies that need a professional, high-end rental cabinet — not a side-line screen. The premium is not marketing. It is a different bill of materials and a different tooling strategy.
1. You need a fully matched custom hardware system
Every Matrix 500 part is designed by DOIT VISION and produced from DOIT-owned moulds — locks, corners, power box, structural pieces, the lot. Fit tolerance is controlled as one system, which shows up as flatter seams, more consistent cabinet alignment after dozens of load-ins, and fewer “parts that almost match.” Lite intentionally shares about 70% common-mould industry parts so the capital cost stays lower. That trade-off is the real Matrix vs Lite decision — before brightness or pitch.
2. You need a higher-tier LED / IC / PCB / power stack
Matrix selects LED, driver IC, PCB and power-supply materials one tier above the Lite stack. That is what pro touring companies, high-end corporate and broadcast-adjacent buyers are paying for: colour stability under load, fewer early failures, and a cabinet that still looks even after a hard season. Lite is engineered for volume inventory economics; Matrix is engineered for fleets where image quality and uptime sit above unit price.
3. You need Brompton Tessera
Brompton Tessera (SX40, S8, S4) is the standard processor for major concert touring — HDR, per-pixel calibration, frame remapping, and seamless input failover. If productions specify Brompton, Lite is not an option. Only Matrix 500 P2.6 supports Brompton, as a separate receiving-card configuration (BOM, quote and lead time differ from the Novastar / Colorlight standard).
4. You do direct-sun outdoor shows
Standard outdoor brightness is up to 4,500 nits on Matrix ja up to 3,500 nits on Lite — fine for covered stages and overcast days. For hard midday sun, specify the high-brightness option: Matrix P3.9 / P4.8 at 6,500 nitstai Lite P3.9 at 6,000 nits. Quote the high-brightness SKU explicitly — do not assume the standard outdoor sheet covers festival sun paths.

Rental companies in Europe and Australia have been reordering the same Matrix 500 modules for over five years with no part substitutions. This is the signal that matters more than a spec sheet.
When Lite Series Wins
Lite is not a discounted Matrix. It is a different product architecture: roughly 70% common-mould parts plus a cost-optimised LED / IC / PCB / PSU stack. That is intentional — and it is why Lite wins on first inventory and dry-hire volume while Matrix wins on long-haul stability and seam quality.
1. You are building your first inventory and budget matters
Because Lite shares common-mould tooling instead of a fully custom DOIT part set, it is the best price-per-square-metre in the rental range. For a first 50–100 m² fleet, the capital saved versus Matrix can fund flight cases, cabling, a processor and spares. Start on Lite; add Matrix later for outdoor touring or Brompton shows when the calendar justifies it.
2. You need two cabinet sizes from a single platform
Lite is the only DOIT VISION rental series that offers both 500×500mm and 500×1000mm cabinets sharing the same LED modules and power supply box. This means you can stock 500×500mm panels for small stages and 500×1000mm panels for large walls — without managing two separate module inventories. For conference centres and churches that run events of wildly different sizes, this flexibility eliminates the need for two product lines.
3. You need P1.9 for near-stage IMAG screens
Lite P1.9 is the finest pixel pitch in the entire DOIT VISION rental range. For IMAG screens where the audience is 3–5 metres away, or for stage monitoring screens where performers stand within 2 metres, P1.9 delivers visible clarity that P2.6 cannot match. Matrix 500 starts at P2.6. If your typical gig includes close-proximity screens, Lite P1.9 is the only option.
4. You want 360° cylindrical LED capability
Lite’s curved locking system can form concave, convex, and complete 360° cylinders — not just gentle arcs. For creative stage designs, column wraps, or immersive exhibition booths, the cylinder capability is a differentiator. Matrix 500 does convex and concave curves but is not designed for full 360° cylinders.
An AV integrator serving both corporate conferences and houses of worship standardised on Lite Series P2.6. Conferences needed 12-metre-wide 16:9 walls (500×1000mm cabinets for speed). Churches needed a 6-metre-wide curved backdrop (500×500mm cabinets with curve locks). One module type. Two cabinet sizes. One spare parts pool. Weight, Speed & Crew Size: The Operational Difference
Weight is secondary to the material-system difference above — but on a truck it still matters. Per-panel numbers below; kg/m² assumes a filled wall.

- Outdoor 500×500: 7.7–7.8 kg ≈ 30.8–31.2 kg/m²

On a 200 m² wall, Lite typically lands ~1,200–1,600 kg lighter in panels than outdoor Matrix — fewer trucks and a less fatigued crew. That does not replace the Matrix material advantage on seam flatness and season-long stability.
Setup speed is comparable. Both use quick-lock, tool-free assembly and front service. Crew experience on one platform still beats switching brands every gig.

Controller Choice Often Decides the Platform
If your productions require Brompton Tessera, Matrix 500 is the only option in the DOIT VISION rental range. If you run Novastar or Colorlight, both Matrix 500 and Lite are available — and the decision reverts to the operational factors above.

With Novastar, both platforms are available. The decision returns to material system (custom moulds vs ~70% common-mould), brightness, weight, pitch and cabinet format — not controller lock-in.
